January 2013. Rioja Vega announces the launch of the second vintage of Esperanza Elías’, winemaker at Rioja Vega, very personal wine 9 BARRICAS.
After many years of research at Rioja Vega, Esperanza lets a few but unique vineyards express their message. Only nine barrels have aged this wine for 23 months. Only nine, because no more were needed to turn the fruit of a few but special vineyards into the amazing wine which today rests in 2,500 bottles.
9 BARRICAS makes a statement. It is brave and proud. It has a great balance of ripe and fresh red fruits, spices and fine wood notes. With a blend of Tempranillo, Graciano and Mazuelo grapes, this wine displays a deep and bright cherry-red colour. It shows great aromatic complexity and intensity, hints of eucalyptus and minerals upon a basis of toffee notes from the ageing in oak barrels.
Rioja Vega wines have collected many accolades from critics, newspapers and specialised magazines and wine guides, such as the 90 points awarded by Robert Parker to the Rioja Vega Reserva as well as awards from the most influential international competitions, such as Decanter, the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, or the International Wine & Spirits Competition.
Rioja Vega was founded in 1882, long before the creation of the Denomination of Origin which has allowed it to keep the word Rioja as part of its brand name. Today, it is one of the few estates whose winemaking tradition dates back to the dawn of wine culture in this privileged region. Such a long history has been possible, thanks to Rioja Vega’s ability to adapt to the changing times while keeping its true Rioja essence and tradition.
Rioja Vega has become a benchmark of the ideal combination between the classicism of one of Spain’s most renowned wine-making regions, and the innovate ideas that have made Rioja Vega reach so far after 130 years since the date of foundation.
