Wine Spectator´s New York Wine Experience 2013. Oct 25 Programa Vespertino

Afternoon Program


Luego de un paréntesis necesario, disfrutando de un paseo por Manhatan, NYC,  volvimos a lo que vinimos, a disfrutar de los vinos.  Nos correspondió asistir a tres degustaciones vespertinas muy enriquecedoras.
 La primera de ellas originaria del Valle del Ródano: Château de Beaucastel.  Fue conducida por su propietario el Sr. Marc Perrin, y por James Molesworth, editor senior de WS.  Antes de escribir mis impresiones de los vinos les comento brevemente que la región del Ródano, es una de las zonas vinícolas más antiguas de Francia, en ella se plantan alrededor de 13 variedades distintas de uva entre las cuales se encuentra la Garnacha, Mouvedre, Syrah, Cynsault, Counoise, Terret Noir, Muscardin, Vaccarèse, Roussanne, Picpoul, Picardan, Bourboulenc y Clairette.  La mayoría de los vinos que se producen son tintos, y en menor escala blancos. Esta bodega, de gran tradición en la región, produce vinos nobles, fieles a la expresión de su terroir .  Data de 1687, siendo en la actualidad de la Flia. Perrin, quienes a través de la viticultura y producción de vinos, demuestran su pasión y entrega en cada botella.  Sus vinos aguardan pacientemente el tiempo, logrando una complejidad única.
Degustamos:
 1.- Château de Beaucastel. Châteauneuf-du-Pape White Vielles 2010. (96Ptos). Vino amarillo pálido muy brillante, transparente, con cuerpo medio, aromas frutales a trópico, piña almibarada, mango, pera, con mineralidad marina, en boca demuestra un perfecto balance gustativo, es cremoso, salino, su retrogusto es agradable y perfumado, con buena persistencia, es exuberante y exótico.  Es un blend de Roussanne, Marsanne.
2.- Château de Beaucastel Châtenauf-du-Pape 2009. Antes de dar mis impresiones, les cuento que este vino se hace mediante vinificación separadas de sus variedades (es una mezcla de Garnacha, Mouvedre, Syrah, Cinsault, entre las 13 variedades que lo componen).  Se efectúa fermentación maloláctica en su vinificación para lograr mayor complejidad.  En nariz da notas especiadas a pimienta blanca, confitura de frutos rojos, notas torrefactas y a caramelo, regaliz… En boca entra potente, pleno, con taninos presentes, robustos y educados. Gran persistencia en boca.  Buen recuerdo.
3.- Château de Beaucastel Châtenauf-du-Pape 2001. Este vino rojo atejado, de hermoso vestido y capa, con destellos brillantes, corona acuosa notable, densidad media, se muestra aromático, con notas confitadas a frutos negros, regaliz y olivas negras, luego ofrece notas minerales, y especias dulces.  En boca es carnoso, goloso, provoca morderlo! Su complejidad enamora, da plenitud y placer.
4.- Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Hommage à Jacques Perrin. Grande Cuveé 2001 El ultimo de la saga… Vino tinto rojo con destellos terrosos, buena densidad y cuerpo, hermosas lágrimas que se muestran en descenso lento y pausado. Presenta aromas terciarios, bouquet animal y mineral, a sudor, sangre, cuero, piel de caballo, tierra húmeda, champiñón, trufa y caramelo.  Tiene un excelente equilibrio gustativo. Retrogusto sabroso, persistencia larga y generosa. Es un gran vino, con amplia capacidad de guarda.
Posteriormente pasamos a la segunda degustación vespertina, fue de Saxum de James Berry Vineyard Paso Robles 2001.  Viña propiedad de la familia Smith que encuentra a 10 kilómetros del Océano Pacífico, CA, Paso Robles; con una elevación media de 1.200 metros. Consiste en una serie de pistas de arcilla poco profunda capa superior del suelo limo que cubre un antiguo lecho marino, con conchas fosilizadas y dientes de tiburón. El vino base es un fruto de color rojo conducido, mezcla basada Garnacha, con una gran parte de Mourvedre para la textura, y el aporte especiado de la Syrah. La mezcla de James Berry Vineyard se envejeció durante 18 a 20 meses en una variedad de envases. Las porciones procedentes de Garnacha en depósito de hormigón y toneles grandes, mientras que las correspondientes a Mourvedre y Syrah en las barricas francesas más pequeñas. Un alto porcentaje de dichas barricas son nuevas. El vino es rico y en capas.  Generalmente frutal y fresco.  Las frambuesas y moras lideran el camino seguido por las hierbas de Provence, taninos densos y sedosos. Sus vinos nunca se acumularon de sus lías y se embotellan sin filtrar. El vino que degustamos fue Saxum que es un blend de Garnacha, Mouvedre y Syrah. Es un vino rojo púrpura, intenso, con gran extracción, brillante, profundo, cubierto y misterioso, de cuerpo medio, lindas piernas, aromas frutales a frutas rojas maduras, vainilla y especias dulces, luego ofrece notas florales, a violeta.  En boca ataca dulce, con acidez que refresca, taninos suaves, persistencia media, joven aún. Muy rico!
Para terminar la tarde,y cerrarla con broche de oro, pasamos a degustar los vinos del TOP 10 del 2012.  Decidieron dividir la degustación en dos partes, la primera de ellas en forma regresiva del 10 al 6 y la siguiente para el día después.  Comenzamos con el #10, y lo presentó nada mas y nada menos que su creador, el propio Santiago Achavál de la Bodega Achával Ferrer (Bodega establecida en 1998).  El vino que degustamos fue Achavál Ferer Malbec Mendoza Finca Bella Vista 2010. Evaluado con 95 Ptos, $120.  Vino de nuevo mundo, proveniente de Perdiel, Luján de Cuyo, Mendoza, Argentina, elaborado con la uva bandera “Malbec”.  Es un vino rojo vivaz, violáceo, cubierto, con gran extracción de color y profundidad, en nariz da notas frutales, regaliz, tierra húmeda, torrefactos.  Gran intensidad, balance y persistencia. Vino con carácter y clase.
Después pasamos a #9 de la lista: el Ciacci Piccolomini d´Aragona Brunello di Montalcino 2007 (94 Ptos, $60) Italiano, Toscano, del SW de Montalcino.  Su variedad: la Sangiovesse, de rojo teja con matices terrosos, es frutal, con aromas minerales y animales, fácil de beber, amigable, sin mayores pretensiones.
De seguidas volvimos a América, a California, y su vino (#8) Beringer Cabernet Sauvignon Knights Valley Reserve 2009 (94 Ptos $45) Degustación conducida por Laurie Hook, enóloga de la casa.  Beringer es una bodega establecida en Napa desde 1876, y se ha convertido en un clásico moderno!... Vino de rojo Rubí intenso, vivaz, muy brillante, en nariz pirocina, pimentón verde cocido, mentolado, notas a caramelo y torrefactos, en boca ligero, fresco, agradable.  Procedente de suelos gravosos arenosos, aluvionales.
El penúltimo de la tarde, mas no del día, ya que aún nos esperaba la degustación de los vinos elegidos por los críticos, evento a realizarse en horas de la noche, que les contaré en una próxima entrega, fue el Shea Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Shea Vineyard Estate 2009 (#7, 94 Ptos $40) Vino proveniente de Oregón, EEUU.  Bodega establecida desde 1989.  Se trata de un vino rojo rubí con destellos granates, traslúcido, cuerpo ligero, aromas a frutos rojos, fresas, frambuesas con vainilla y mentol, en boca es aterciopelado, sedoso y elegante.  Su ataque es dulce con seductora acidez. Muy interesante!
Para terminar la sesión vespertina disfrutamos de Château Giraud Sauternes 2009 (#5, 96 Ptos $60) Sauternes/Bordeaux/Francia. Bodega establecida en el siglo XV, en 1766 propiedad de la Familia Giraud, por más de tres generaciones, luego han sucedido otros propietarios.  La leyenda de este vino surge con la clasificación de 1855 que le otorga la categoría a su pago de Premier Grand Cru de Sauternes, categoría que aún preserva, además de haber sido certificado como orgánico.  Se trata de un vino de cosecha tardía, que corresponde al tipo de la Región.  De baja producción y rendimiento. Su color es amarillo oro intenso, brillante, de denso baile en copa, en nariz es floral, con notas a acacia, miel, caramelo, orejones de durazno. En boca es perfectamente equilibrado su dulzor y acidez.  Excelente para postres, queso azul tipo Roquefort. Excelente!

WINE SPECTATOR´S NEW YORK WINE EXPERIENCE 2013. Programa matutino del 25 de Octubre


Al día siguiente, continuamos nuestro recorrido de aprendizaje, disfrute y placer con lo que nos ofrecía el programa diurno, desde muy temprano, comenzábamos con un desayuno continental, para luego dirigirnos al gran salón del Hotel Marriott Marquis, el cual se encontraba impecablemente dispuestos para recibirnos y ofrecernos LAS CATAS…

El programa matutino comenzó con una vertical de CHAMPAGNE´S ROEDERER CRISTAL, conducida por Frédéric Rouzaud, jefe de la casa, y Alison Napjus, editor senior de WS.

Nos contó acerca de su bodega fundada en 1760, que posteriormente  pasó a manos de Roederer en 1833. Dicha bodega se encuentra en Reims, Francia, posee 205 hectáreas de cultivo, donde las variedades cultivadas son Pinot Noir y Chardonnay, a razón de 8300 cepas por hectárea, con rendimientos entre 10000 a 12000 Kgs por hectárea. En la vinificación, tienen flexibilidad respecto a la realización de la fermentación maloláctica.  Gran selección envejecimiento en grandes barriles de roble francés y un embotellamiento relativamente precoz.  Posee instalaciones climatizadas, con unas condiciones sanitarias increíbles.  Todos los vinos de reserva, son en esencia del Cristal, se mantienen en grandes foudres de madera, lo cual contribuye a darle el estilo y gran cuerpo embriagador.  La mezcla varía, pero en general Cristal se produce con un 50% a 60% de Pinot Noir, y el resto Chardonnay.

Cristal, fue el Champagne elegido por los Zares de Rusia, año 1873.  Actualmente es una empresa familiar, productora de uno de los Champagnes más prestigiosos del mundo.

Sus mejores recientes añadas fueron 96, 90 y 82.

Degustamos 

1.-LOUIS ROEDERER BRUT CHAMPAGNE CRISTAL 2002. Proviene de pagos clasificados Grand Cru. Posee aromas a levadura, pan grillé, bollería.  En boca otorga una refrescante acidez, con sensaciones minerales y sedosas.

2.- LOUIS ROEDERER BRUT CHAMPAGNE CRISTAL 1996 Compuesta por un 60% de Pinot Noir, proveniente de dos pagos distintos, el resto Chardonnay cuyo aporte a la mezcla es elegancia.  No se hizo Maloláctica en esta añada.  De maduración lenta.  Con un tiempo de guarda de 8 años con sus lías.  Sus aromas a fermentación son cautivantes, notas oxidativas en perfecta conjunción con frutos secos, avellanas, almendras, flores blancas, miel, acacia... en boca es elegante, pura, precisa, elegante, compleja, persistente, plena.

3.- LOUIS ROEDERER BRUT CHAMPAGNE CRISTAL 1990 De tonos dorados brillantes y burbuja fina y continua infinita, se nos presenta el vino con mayor evolución.  Notas oxidativas enriquecedoras, mineralidad, menor frutosidad más complejidad ganada por el pasar del tiempo.  Mayor intensidad aromática y gustativa.  Compleja, profunda, bien lograda.  Intensidad y seducción en cada sorbo.

4.- LOUIS ROEDERER BRUT ROSE CHAMPAGNE CRISTAL 2002  Creada en 1974, con la proporción de 70% Pino Noir y 30% Chardonnay, la vinificación de las variedades es por separado.  El Pinot Noir se vinifica con una leve maceración en frío, con sus hollejos para extracción de color hasta la gamma justa.  Su color es Rosa Pálido. Ofrece frescura, frutosidad, notas tostadas e intensidad aromática y gustativa.  De largo recuerdo.

De seguidas pasó un gran productor de vinos de la región del Ródano, Michel Chapoutier, para presentarnos su M. Chapoutier Ermitage White de l´Orée 2010.  Se trata de un vino blanco que ha obtenido puntajes de 96 Ptos.  Sus variedades son Viognier y Marsanne.  Con gran potencial de Guarda.  En nariz es floral, perfumado, mineral. A la vista es ligero, alegre baile en copa, y en boca nos ataca dulce con una refrescante acidez, sensaciones minerales, salinas.  Buen balance y equilibrio.  Muy rico!
Vino el mediodía, sin descanso, degustamos de un almuerzo temático  increíble, acompañado de vinos de la región de Sonoma de la Bodega propiedad de Peter Michael,  donde cada comensal tenía la oportunidad de tomar las botellas del centro de la mesa y maridarlas al gusto.  Allí pudimos degustar y armonizar con los platos los distintos vinos ofrecidos, que listados son los siguientes: 1.- Chardonnay, Knights Valle La Carrière 2009 (Chardonnay con madera, muy buena nariz, perfumado, mineral, floral, en boca fresco, ligero de persistencia media) 2.- Pinot Noir Fort Ross-Seaview Ma Danseuse 2011 (Frutal, avainillado, aromas a frutos rojos, caramelo, sedoso en boca, fresco, amigable, con acidez equilibrada) 3.- Sauvignon Blanc Knigths Valley L´Après Midi 2011 (Aromas tropicales, mineralidad marina, ataque dulce en boca con ligera acidez refrescante, buen balance gustativo) 4.- Les Pavots Knights Valley 2007,(Aromas especiados, a tierra húmeda, champiñón, en boca es seco, con ligera acidez y amables taninos) 5.- Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville Au Paradis 2011. (Aromas a pimentón cocido, especiado y mentolado, caramelo, torrefactos, en boca ataque dulce con taninos cultos, amarga despedida con persistencia media).

Luego de conocer una muestra de vinos de Sonoma, vino el postre, pasamos nuevamente al salón de cata, donde nos esperaba EL PRINCIPE ROBERT DE LUXEMBOURG, nada más y nada menos, que para presentarnos su vino: CHÂTEAU LA MISSION HAUT-BRION! Bodega fundada en 1540. Hoy propiedad, desde 1983, de la familia Dillon. Se trata de un blend con Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, cuya mezcla varía según el año.
En esta ocasión degustamos la cosecha 2009, es originario de la región de Pessac-Léognan de Burdeos, este gran vino se viste de Rubí intenso, profundo, brillante y semi cubierto, su densidad es media, lágrimas que se toman su tiempo para su descenso, en nariz ofrece aromas a fruta, mentol, especias, aromas florales a violeta, mineralidad, caramelo, vainilla, bouquet animal, a sudor, cuero, da tanto.. Qué generoso es!, en boca aborda dulce, va seduciendo poco a poco cada papila, luego refresca su acidez, estimula su salinidad y se despide con un suave amargor y una larga sensación de recuerdo.  Este gran vino tiene un enorme potencial de guarda, es una delicia que acaricia los sentidos, da un placer inmenso al ser bebido...más bien vivido!
 La última de las sesiones vespertinas de cata correspondió a una variada muestra de vinos alemanes.  Para mi sorpresa, rompieron con mis esquemas, fueron interesantísimos!  En otras oportunidades había probado vinos alemanes, que no gozaban de la calidad de estos… La degustación se centró en Vinos de la variedad Riesling, conducida por Kim Marcus, managing editor de WS, Nik Eis, St. Irbans-Hof; Gunter Hauck, Basserman-Jordan; Christian Witte, Schloss Johannisberg, Johannes Hasselbach, Gunderloch.  Degustamos los siguientes vinos:


1.- St. Urbans-Hof Riesling Beerenaulese Mosel Saarfeilser 2010. Vino Amarillo dorado pálido, aromas a confitura, miel, frutos tropicales, flores blancas, muy aromático, excelente balance de acidez y dulzura con mineralidad. Refrescante en boca, no empalaga. Densidad media. Breve.

2.- Basserman-Jordan Riesling Beerenaulese Pfalz Deidesheirmer Hohenmorgen 2010 Vino de Amarillo dorado intenso, vivaz, aromas a fruta tropical confitada, cascara de limón, con densidad, en boca es pleno, con una dulzura equilibrada, persistente despedida.

3.- Schloss Johannisberg Riesling Trockenbeerenaulese Rheingau Goldlack 2011 Vino más denso, Amarillo Oro brillante, variedad de aromas con intensidad, aromas a piña confitada, almíbar, notas amílicas, a barniz de uñas, en boca es sedoso, balance perfecto entre dulzor y acidez, sabroso!

4.- Gunderloch Riesling Trockenbeerenaulese Rheinhessen Nackenheim Rothenberg 2007. De color ámbar, brillante, en nariz presenta de entrada notas oxidativas enriquecedoras, miel y caramelo, flores blancas, orejones de durazno, vino con cuerpo y densidad, al gusto es exótico, con mineralidad. Buena despedida, agradable persistencia.

Bueno queridos seguidores, este fue el comienzo del día… apenas fue el programa de la mañana, quedaba mucho más por ver, conocer y disfrutar.  Se los contaré después, lo dejamos para la próxima!

7Domaine du Pégaü Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée
Intense, with the tarry, bittersweet cocoa-fueled grip of the vintage running through a well-endowed core of crushed plum, blackberry paste and braised fig. The muscular finish picks up notes of brick dust, pepper, warm chestnut leaf and smoldering charcoal. A throwback profile, with a hyperripe core of fruit—and it works. 14Bedrock The Bedrock Heritage Sonoma Valley
A knockout wine that captures a genuine sense of place and vintage. Rose petal, wild berry and Asian spice aromas open to layered, distinctive flavors of huckleberry pie, licorice and spicy mineral. The tannins are big but ripe, and there's plenty of lively acidity behind it all to keep this rolling. A blend of Zinfandel, Carignane and 21 other field-blended varieties. The rose, strawberry and cherry aromas and flavors are beautifully displayed on an elegant frame in this pure and delicately wrought red, which shows harmony and depth. 18Poggerino Chianti Classico
Bright and well-endowed with pure cherry, raspberry and black currant fruit, shaded by tobacco, licorice and mineral flavors. Elegant, intense and persistent, with a long aftertaste of fruit and mineral. This should age well, but a trade-off to lose that beautiful fruit now.
